League handbook
Rules, conduct, safeguarding and privacy
In short
How the league runs
- Boxes of 3 (a box at the bottom may have 4). Play everyone in your box once each month.
- Matches are best of 5 games. Arrange a time with your opponent and book a court with So Squash on LINE (@tenallsquashclub).
- Either player enters the score and the other confirms it. Scores confirm automatically after 48 hours.
- Points = games won. Ties are decided by match wins, then game difference, then head-to-head.
- At the end of each month the top player in each box moves up a box and the bottom player moves down.
- If you play no matches in a month you finish bottom of your box. Two months in a row with no matches, without pausing, makes you inactive. You can sign up again at any time.
- Need a month off? Choose "Pause next month" and you'll come back in the same box, or the one below if it's full.
- New players join on the 1st of the month.
- Problems and disputes go to the organisers, who have the final say.
- The league is free to play, in partnership with EasyPE.
Section 1
About the league
The Bangkok Squash League (BSL) is a free monthly box league. This first season is for players at So Squash Bangkok.
- Run by EasyPE. EasyPE built and runs the app, sets the league rules with So Squash, and is responsible for the personal data in it (the "data controller").
- Hosted by So Squash Bangkok. Matches are played at So Squash. So Squash staff help run the league as club admins, acting on EasyPE's instructions.
- Free to enter. The league is run by Ryan Toal as a volunteer, so there is no entry fee. Court hire is paid to So Squash at its normal rates, and the two players share the court fee equally unless they agree otherwise.
- Who can play. Anyone who plays at So Squash. Players under 20 need a parent or guardian's consent, because 20 is the legal age of majority in Thailand. Players under 18 also play under the safeguarding rules in section 5.
- Contacts. League organiser: Ryan Toal (EasyPE), with So Squash Bangkok staff. EasyPE: contact@easype.store. Safeguarding: see section 5.
This handbook applies to everyone who takes part: players, parents and guardians, club admins and EasyPE. We may update it between seasons, and we will show any change in the app before it takes effect.
Section 2
Competition rules
2.1 Season and months
The first season runs for 10 months, from December 2026 to September 2027, with each calendar month one round. September 2027 is the final month. October and November 2027 are a two-month break, when the honours board awards are presented. The month closes at 00:00 Bangkok time on the 1st of the next month.
2.2 Boxes
Players are placed in boxes of 3; the bottom one or two boxes may have 4. Boxes are mixed: men, women and juniors play in the same boxes, ordered by ability. You play everyone in your box once a month.
2.3 Joining
New players join on the 1st of the month. The first month is seeded from the self-rating quiz. After that, new players start in the bottom box, although the organisers may place an experienced new player higher, with a recorded reason.
2.4 Match format
Singles, best of 5 games, point-a-rally scoring to 11, and a game at 10–10 is won by two clear points. The World Squash singles rules apply, self-refereed (2.8).
2.5 Arranging matches
- Contact your opponents in the first 7 days of the month and offer at least two dates.
- Reply to messages within 3 days.
- Give at least 24 hours' notice. A same-day request, or a first message in the last 2 days of the month, is not reasonable notice.
- Play at So Squash during opening hours, and book courts with So Squash on LINE (@tenallsquashclub).
2.6 Juniors
Matches involving a player under 18 are arranged with their parent or guardian, and played at So Squash while staff are on site. They are never arranged anywhere else (section 5).
2.7 Equipment and safety
Wear non-marking court shoes. Squash goggles are compulsory for every player under 19, in every league match, and strongly recommended for everyone. Play within your fitness, and stop if you are injured or unwell.
2.8 Warm-up and refereeing
Warm up for 5 minutes, 2½ minutes on each side. With no referee, players agree lets and strokes in good faith. Call your own double bounces, downs and outs. If you cannot agree, play a let. Never play a shot that risks hitting your opponent; stop and ask for a let.
2.9 Injury and retirement
If a player cannot continue, the opponent wins the match. Games already won stand, and the remaining games go to the opponent, so retiring at 1–1 is recorded as 1–3. Stop play for any bleeding until it is treated.
2.10 Results
Either player enters the result in the app within 48 hours. The other player confirms it, or disputes it with a note. A result nobody answers confirms itself after 48 hours. Disputes go to the organisers (section 4).
2.11 Standings
Points are games won. A player who played at least one match ranks above anyone who played none. Ties are decided by match wins, then game difference, then the head-to-head result, then name.
2.12 Matches not played
There are no automatic walkovers. If an opponent will not arrange a match after at least two reasonable attempts over 7 days, report it with screenshots. The organisers may award the match 3–0 or act under section 4.
2.13 Month end
- The bottom player of each box swaps with the top player of the box below.
- A player who played no matches finishes bottom of their box. Two months in a row with no matches and no pause makes a player inactive; they can rejoin through the waiting list.
- A pause gives you one month off. You return to the same box, or the one below if it is full.
- The organisers may adjust any placement before publishing, with a recorded reason.
2.14 Honours
Trophies are presented at the end of the season: the Men's and Ladies' Championship Cups, the Division One Salver, the Climbers' Shield, the Winning Run Tankard, the Colts' Cup and the Junior Girls' Rose Bowl. The rules for each are shown on the Honours board. To win a trophy you must have played in at least half the months of the season (5 of the 10).
2.15 Anything else
Anything these rules do not cover is decided by the organisers in the spirit of fair play, with a recorded reason.
Section 3
Etiquette
On court
- Arrive 10 minutes early. If you will be late, message your opponent straight away.
- Warm up fairly, sharing the ball and the court.
- Call your own downs, double bounces and outs, even when it costs you the point.
- Give your opponent a fair view and a direct path to the ball. If in doubt, stop and ask for a let.
- No racket abuse, ball abuse or swearing.
- Shake hands or touch rackets before and after the match.
- Finish on time and leave the court tidy for the next booking.
Off court
- Answer messages promptly and politely, between 8am and 9pm.
- Enter honest scores quickly, and confirm your opponent's promptly.
- Never contact a junior directly. Always use their guardian's contact.
- Respect So Squash staff and the club's rules.
- Keep talk about results kind. Everyone is here to play, improve and enjoy it.
Section 4
Code of conduct and sanctions
4.1 Standards
Everyone must play fairly and honestly; treat others with respect whatever their age, sex, ability, nationality, religion, disability or sexual orientation; follow the safeguarding rules; follow So Squash's club rules and staff instructions; and use other players' contact details only to arrange league matches.
4.2 Offence levels
- Minor: repeated lateness, poor etiquette, slow replies, careless score entry.
- Moderate: abusive or offensive language, racket abuse, repeatedly refusing to arrange matches, entering a false score.
- Serious: threats, harassment, discrimination, deliberately dangerous play, cheating, misusing another player's contact details.
- Gross misconduct: violence, sexual misconduct, any breach of the safeguarding rules, any criminal offence against a participant.
4.3 Sanctions
The sanctions follow squash's own conduct ladder of warning, stroke, game and match:
- Informal word from an organiser (minor).
- Formal warning, kept on record for 12 months (repeated minor, moderate).
- Result change: a match awarded to the opponent, or points removed (moderate, serious).
- Suspension from the league for 1 to 6 months (serious).
- Removal from the league, which can be permanent (repeated serious, gross misconduct).
Interim suspension. For gross misconduct, or any safeguarding concern, a player can be suspended at once while the matter is looked into. This protects people and is not a finding against anyone.
Sanctions are proportionate. The organisers consider the facts, intent, harm caused, any previous record and any apology.
4.4 Procedure
- Report in the app (Report a problem, or Dispute on a score) or to an organiser, within 7 days. Say what happened and when, with any screenshots. Safeguarding concerns follow section 5 instead.
- Acknowledge. The organisers reply within 3 days.
- Hear both sides. The player concerned is told what is alleged and has 7 days to respond.
- Decide. A fair play panel of at least two people, one from EasyPE and one from So Squash, with no personal involvement, makes the decision. Routine matters are decided in the last 72 hours of the month, before the boxes are drawn; urgent matters straight away.
- Record. The decision and reasons go to the player in writing and into the audit log.
- Appeal within 7 days, in writing, on the grounds of new evidence, an unfair process or a sanction that is too severe. A panel member who was not part of the first decision hears it. The appeal decision is final within the league.
Nothing here affects anyone's right to go to the police or other authorities.
Section 5
Safeguarding and child protection
5.1 Our commitment
The welfare of children comes first, and everyone in the league shares the responsibility for keeping them safe. This policy follows Thailand's Child Protection Act B.E. 2546 (2003) and good practice in sport. A child is anyone under 18.
5.2 Safeguarding leads
The league's safeguarding lead is Ryan Toal (EasyPE), contact@easype.store. Ryan is a UK Qualified Teacher and Director of Sport at TSI International School, holds a Thai teaching licence and has experience in safeguarding procedures. Ryan runs the league as a volunteer. At So Squash Bangkok, tell the duty manager on site. If you are worried about a child, tell one of them the same day.
5.3 Joining
A parent or guardian registers the child, gives consent, and agrees that the child may be placed in boxes with adults. All match arrangements for a child go to the guardian: the app never shows a child's own phone number or LINE ID. A child's name is hidden from other members unless the guardian chooses to show it.
5.4 Rules for adults
- Never message, call or follow a child on social media directly. Use the guardian's contact, and include the guardian in any group message.
- Play matches with a child only at So Squash while staff are on site. Never arrange to meet a child anywhere else through the league.
- Do not offer a child a lift, gifts or private coaching through the league.
- Avoid being alone with a child in the changing rooms or away from the court.
- Do not photograph or film a child without the guardian's permission, and never post images of a child.
- Keep your language and behaviour appropriate at all times.
5.5 Guardians
Guardians are welcome to watch any match. Please make sure your child arrives on time, wears squash goggles (compulsory under 19) and leaves safely.
5.6 If you are worried
Signs of concern include unexplained injuries, a change in behaviour, an adult paying a child inappropriate attention, or a child telling you something.
- If a child tells you something: listen, stay calm, do not promise to keep it secret, and do not ask leading questions.
- Write down what you saw or heard, in their words, with the date and time, as soon as you can.
- Tell a safeguarding lead the same day. Do not investigate yourself and do not confront anyone.
- If a child is in immediate danger, call the police on 191. You can also call the 1300 hotline of the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security.
- Do not put the details of a safeguarding concern in the league app. The safeguarding leads keep these records securely and separately, and share them only with people who need to know or with the authorities.
5.7 Concerns about an adult
If a concern involves an adult in the league, that adult is suspended from the league at once while it is looked into (4.3), and the safeguarding leads decide whether to refer it to the authorities.
5.8 Review
This policy is reviewed every season and after any serious incident.
Section 6
Privacy notice (PDPA)
This notice explains how your personal data is used in the league, under Thailand's Personal Data Protection Act B.E. 2562 (2019), the PDPA.
6.1 Who is responsible
EasyPE, run by Ryan Toal, is the data controller. Contact: contact@easype.store. So Squash Bangkok helps run the league as a data processor: its club admins use the data only for the league, on EasyPE's instructions, under a written agreement.
6.2 What we collect
- Account: the identifier from your sign-in method, and the language you choose.
- Profile: display name, cup, age group, phone number and LINE ID; for players under 20, a parent or guardian's name and contact; your self-rating result.
- League activity: boxes, scores, standings, pauses, plans to leave, disputes and problem reports you send, and honours.
- Admin records: changes the organisers make and why (the audit log), and any conduct decisions.
We do not collect ID card numbers, payment details, photos or health information. Please do not put health details in notes.
6.3 Why we use it
| Purpose | Legal basis |
|---|---|
| Running the league: boxes, results, standings, month end | Contract (section 24(3)) |
| Putting you in touch with your box-mates | Contract |
| Showing boxes, standings and honours to other members | Legitimate interests (section 24(5)). A visible league is the point of a box league, and you can hide your name at any time. |
| Fair play, conduct and safeguarding | Legitimate interests; legal obligations (section 24(6)); vital interests (section 24(2)) when someone is at risk |
| Players under 20 | Consent of the parent or guardian (section 20) |
| Keeping the app secure and the records accurate | Legitimate interests |
6.4 Who can see it
- Players in your box this month: your name and contact details (a guardian's, for players under 18).
- All signed-in members: your name, or "Hidden player" if you choose; your boxes, results and honours. Never your rating, plans, contact details or conduct record.
- So Squash club admins: the profile and league data they need to run the league. They cannot download or export players' data.
- EasyPE: everything, as the operator and data controller.
- Our hosting provider, Caffeine, which stores the app's data on the Internet Computer network and processes it only to run the service.
- Authorities, where the law requires it or someone is at risk.
We never sell your data or use it for advertising.
6.5 Data stored outside Thailand
The app is hosted on the Internet Computer, a decentralised network with servers in several countries, so your data may be stored outside Thailand. We transfer it only as sections 28 and 29 of the PDPA allow, with the safeguards described in 6.8.
6.6 How long we keep it
- Account and contact details: while you take part, then 24 months after you leave or become inactive, then deleted.
- League results: kept as the league's history. Once you have been gone for 24 months, your name is replaced with "Former player".
- Disputes and problem reports: 12 months after they are closed.
- The audit log and conduct decisions: 3 years.
- Safeguarding records: kept by the safeguarding leads outside the app, as their policy requires.
6.7 Your rights
You can ask to see and get a copy of your data, take it to another service, correct it, delete it or make it anonymous, restrict or object to how it is used, and withdraw consent; for players under 20 the guardian can do this. Email contact@easype.store and we will reply within 30 days. You can also complain to the Office of the Personal Data Protection Committee. Some results cannot be deleted while you are still playing, because other players' standings depend on them.
6.8 Keeping it safe
Access is by role, every admin change is logged, admin accounts are named and never shared, and connections are encrypted. If a breach is likely to put people at risk, we will tell the PDPC within 72 hours, and tell you without delay if the risk to you is high.
6.9 Changes
We will show changes in the app before they take effect.
Section 7
Terms of use
7.1 Agreement
These terms are between you and EasyPE. By creating an account you accept them, together with the competition rules, the code of conduct and the safeguarding policy. Players under 20 may only join with a parent or guardian's consent.
7.2 Your account
One account per person. Give accurate details and keep them up to date, and keep your sign-in secure. Admin accounts are personal and never shared.
7.3 Using the app
Use the app only for the league. Do not misuse other players' contact details, enter false results, try to see data you are not shown, or disrupt the app.
7.4 Taking part safely
Squash is a fast, physical sport with a risk of injury. You take part voluntarily, you are responsible for being fit to play, and you must wear eyewear where these rules require it. So Squash's own club rules apply on its premises.
7.5 Liability
Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot be limited under Thai law, including liability for death or injury caused by negligence under the Unfair Contract Terms Act B.E. 2540 (1997). Otherwise, EasyPE provides the app free of charge and is not responsible for court availability, club facilities, or arrangements players make between themselves.
7.6 The app
EasyPE owns the app and its design. You keep any rights in what you write, and allow it to be shown in the league as these terms describe. We aim to keep the app running, but cannot promise it will never be unavailable.
7.7 Suspension and leaving
You can leave at any time from your profile. The organisers can suspend or remove you under section 4. EasyPE can end the league with reasonable notice.
7.8 Changes
We will give notice in the app before any change takes effect. If you keep playing after that, you accept the change.
7.9 Law
Thai law governs these terms. Any dispute that cannot be settled under section 4 goes to the Thai courts.
